Val Thorens is Europe’s highest resort
(2300 metres), with guaranteed snow all season. The skiing
around Val Thorens is difficult to beat, with almost 90 miles
of pistes of its own, but is also a part of the massive Three
Valleys Skiing area (linked with Courchevel, Meribel and La
Tania). Combined, these areas make up the world's largest
ski area, offering an incredible 373 miles (600 kilometers)
of pistes, plus abundant off-piste opportunities for those
who want to find the fresh powder. The ski village is very
pleasant – although a purpose built resort it has quite
an alpine-village feel to it and is quite pleasant. Val Thorens
has a decent variety of quality restaurants, shops, and après-ski
activities. It is an alpine paradise. For
accommodation and further information on Courchevel visit

Eating Out: |
|
| Val Thorens is a high-spirited
place at night with a lively club, bar, and pub scene. Nightspots
come in a variety of flavors, from the pulsating techno discotheques
to the French wine bars to the more subdued British-style
pubs where you can gather with friends for a round of pints.
Popular bars are Le Monde and Bloopers, the Frog and Roast
Beef, Pub Lincoln, and the Sherlock. There are also plenty
of wine bars, and El Gringo, the Mexican restaurant, is a
wild place, specializing in margaritas and tequila shots.
A favourite club for many is Malaysia" club. |
Most of the 50 odd restaurants
in Val Thorens are of course French, serving local specialities
such as fondue, raclette along with more traditional items
such as steak. The town also boasts a good selection of Italian,
Mexican and French-style fast food options. |

Childrens
Facilities: |
|
Val Thorens is very child-friendly.
Daycare is available for children as young as three months
through the ESF (the French Ski School), and private babysitters
can also be arranged through the ski lodges.
ESF ski accepts students starting at age four, and Marielle
Goitschel's program accepts children from age three. There
is a dedicated nursery/learning area for children with three
free lifts. Otherwise, kids get discounted lift tickets in
two age ranges: five to nine and 10 to 15.
Kids are often seen in the Playland Sports Centre, which has
a trampoline, a pool of balls, and all kinds of climbing areas
inside an inflated castle.
